After all the ups and downs of the last week of preparation for the Fun Day it's a bit of a relief to have the first one over but I think we've learned a lesson or two along the way and hopefully our next fun day event will be even bigger and better than this one.
We were blessed with great weather on Saturday so hopefully everyone enjoyed the day, we've so many people to thank that I think we'll have to take our time and contact you all personally to make sure we don't leave anyone out. Above all we want to thank our main event sponsors Loughguile Credit Union Limited, these type of events can't happen without the financial support of local businesses so we're grateful to have so many generous business men and woman in the local area. Thanks to Justin and all the at LCU for your support, and thanks again to our other sponsors for your contribution to the success of the event.
One or two things didn't go according to plan on Saturday so apologies if anyone missed the Balloon Release, we made a snap decision to release the balloons early as we'd noticed some of the balloons were bursting in the net. An announcement was made but I think some people were taken by surprise when the nets were opened. No updates on any balloons being found at this stage but we'll keep you up to date over the next month.
We also changed our mind about charging a small entrance fee, this was mainly due to the fact that Cathal Barrett wasn't able to make it but we did receive great support through the donations made both on the day and since the event and we want to thank everyone for your generous donations which have greatly helped to reduce the financial cost to the Foundation. With this level of support we can get on with our plans to make this a regular annual event in Loughgiel and start thinking about what we can add to make the day even better. If you have any ideas or suggestions or any feedback on the day at all then feel free to get in touch.
We want to take another opportunity to thank all the hurling and camogie teams who participated in the Under 12 Blitz. Congratulations to Glenarriff and Cushendall Hurlers and to Loughguile Shamrocks Camogie team for taking home the trophies after some great games. Thanks to Geraldine McGarrigle and Eddie McCloskey for presenting the trophies, it was great to have you both there and I'm sure it made the day all the more special for the young teams taking part.
Thanks to Karen McCormick, Eoin McCloskey and the other volunteers from the hurling club who took on all the work of organising the blitz and officiating the matches, we appreciate the time and effort you put into making the event as far reaching as possible, the Foundation want to reach out to all our local clubs and community and it's great to have the knowledge and support of so many club volunteers within Loughgiel Shamrocks. We're very thankful also to have Angela, Jean, Aine and all the Millennium Centre staff to help and support the Foundation, the Centre is a great location to host these types of events and we appreciate your willingness to go out of your way to support us both before the event and on the day itself.
Thanks to everyone who volunteered to help with setting up the event, to Michael and Sapphire for your contribution to the entertainment, to Liam for setting up the sound system and music. Thanks to the many people who took responsibility for supervising at the competitions, wearing customs, serving food, inflating balloons, picking up litter and clearing up afterwards, it was a big team effort and we're glad to have so many faithful volunteers to take a lot of the strain.
Finally thanks to Patrick McCullough for stepping in at short notice to capture some great photographs to help us remember the day, have a look at our fun day gallery to see all the photos from the blitz and fun day and feel free to share these with your friends.
